I had the honor of presenting John Gerber with the 2012 Secretary of the State 2012 Citizenship Award to John Gerber.
John Gerber exhibits leadership qualities. John has made honors every quarter during his time in Middle School. John has defined himself as a student willing to take on challenges, find successes in the goals he sets for himself, and grow as a person.
John has definded himself as a team player through his involvement in sports including Lacrosse, Soccer and, Basketball. He is also on the Roger Ludlowe Middle School's Cross Country and Track teams. Through the community. John has been selected as a member of the Wakeman Torch Community Service Organization and is also part of the Western CT Reginal Concert for Band.
John has exemplified a maturity beyond his years and has inspired our Fairfield community through his commitment to phianthrophy. Since 2010, John has participated in St. Baldrick's as a captain of " Team Teddy" which has raised over 200,000 dollars to help fund cancer research.
"Team Teddy" is named for John's brother Teddy who passed away from undifferentiated sarcoma cancer in 2010. John also initiated and organized a toy/video game/ book drive for the pediatric oncology wing at Yale New Haven hospital.
John was selected as a mentor for the Character Education Program. John was effective in motivating younger students to contribute to the positive school climate.
John is a member of the Ludlowe Corps that empowers school children in the US to make a difference in the lives of others. This year, John was selected to travel to Ecuador to bring water filtration systems to elementary schools. John is a quietly confident young man who will excel at anything he seeks to accomplish!
It was very special to share in this proud moment with the Gerber Family!
