Fairfield's First Dedicated Spinning Studio to Open Soon

Greenwich has SoulCycle, Darien and Westport have JoyRide, and soon Fairfield will have ZenRide.

The county's newest -- and Fairfield's only -- Spinning studio is slated to open in August, owner and local Jessica Gray said. It is opening in the Bob's plaza on the Post Road, next to the UPS Store.

Gray, who has been a Spinning instructor in Manhattan and Connecticut since 2000, hopes to treat riders to the original mission of the Spinning brand.

"Spinning was originally created to be a mind, body, and spirit experience," Gray said. "That can sometimes get lost at big-box gyms."

She was inspired to open ZenRide after seeing the success of SoulCycle, JoyRide, and other studios, like Stamford's Flywheel.

ZenRide, an officially licensed Spinning Studio, will stay true to Spinning's mission, use official Spinning bikes, and employ certified Spinning instructors, Gray said.

She hopes each ride will give people a "stronger body, clearer mind, and lighter spirit."

That outcome depends on the strength of the instructor, experience of the rider, the energy in the class, and -- of course -- the music used during the ride.

"It always comes back to the instructor and the music," Gray said of the success of a Spinning class.

She's cultivated a handful of instructors so far and will be teaching as many classes as needed to get ZenRide off the ground.

The studio will be equipped with 30 bikes and Gray hopes to start off with 15-20 classes per week -- with more added as summer wanes and residents get back from vacations.

She's excited to "fill a void" in Fairfield, and looking forward to building a community in the town she recently moved to.

Gray plans to implement a pay-per-class model, with student rates available.
