If you've driven around the county, you've probably noticed there are a lot of farms in the area. If you've not had the time to sample their wares, fret not.
A new restaurant in Wilton wants to make sure you taste what they offer.
Located in Georgetown, Bistro 7 opened its doors to customers in July. The restaurant is operated by Matt Criscuolo, who owns neighboring Toozy Pazta, and Breno Donatti.
"We like to call ourselves a Farm-to-Fork restaurant serving modern American cuisine," Jeanette Vecchione Donatti told Patch. "Through our description, we buy from local Connecticut farms and use as many local and organic ingredients as possible which we believe is not only good for our bodies, but it also tastes better and is better for the environment."
Bistro 7 gets ingredients from numerous farms -- including those in Wilton, Ridgefield, Westport and Bethel.
The restaurant, she said, is described as "casual fine dining."
"The ambience is modern, yet cozy where you can watch sports on our two 48 inch TVs at the bar or relax in our dining room and watch black and white films projecting on our back wall," Donatti said. "We are a small, warm and inviting restaurant, hence the reason we called ourselves Bistro 7. We want everyone young and old to come in and feel at home here and enjoy a fresh, unique, and relaxing experience. We have a delicious kids menu as well as an early bird menu for our seniors so all are welcome."
Business at the new restaurant has been great, Donatti said.
"We are really busy for dinner which is fantastic and as businesses have come back from holidays, lunch has been picking up a lot," she said. "We are doing so well, we decided to start serving brunch on Sunday mornings."
Chef Kris Grossman "decides the specials pertaining to what was purchased for that day so they are always unique and changing," Donatti said.
Specials?
The restaurant has a happy hour weekdays from 3 to 7 p.m. and offers discounted bar food and drink specials during that time. There's also early bird specials, where customers who come in between 3 and 5:30 p.m. can enjoy 15 percent discounts. There's also a Thirsty Thursday special where draft beers are $3 and house wine is $5.
The restaurant prides itself on serving up local food.
"Purchasing from local farms is very important to us because not only is the food fresher when it’s not transported from another state or imported from another country, but it also tastes better," Donatti said. "Ethically, we also feel that even during a financial crisis, we need to support each other’s local businesses and encourage our Connecticut businesses to grow. It may cost a little more for us to purchase such good quality items, however, we try to keep the cost as low as possible for our customers so they could enjoy a well prepared, delicious healthy meal. It is very satisfying for us to see satisfied customers who rave about our food."
Donatti said the customer base varies
"We are a sit-down restaurant where some have brought their children, yet others come for dates -- it is an atmosphere for all," she said. "We have a variety of music playing depending on the hour and crowd ranging from big band era to jazz mixed with soft lounge and latin music. Our bar gets crowded some nights being a more mature crowd and others being a younger crowd. It also ranges on the time of day. Many people at the bar have girl’s outings and many people like to have their dinner at the bar. It’s very inviting and comfortable to sit there for dinner with friends."
The restaurant also offers take out and delivery.
