SBC Kicks Off CT Beer Week With Release of New Beer

Southport Brewing Company (SBC) will kick off CT Beer Week 2013 on Saturday with the release of the limited edition Bottle Rocket beer.

Bottle Rocket is a hand-bottled beer that will be sold in an ink-printed collector's edition 32-oz Boston round growler, SBC owner and head brewer Mark DeSilva said.

It's a Biere de garde, or French farmhouse, beer with aromas of sweet orange, spicy clove, peppercorn, and herbal tea, per DeSilva.

The Bottle Rocket has flavors of sweet fruit, light malt, and Hallertau (German) hops and a dry finish.

"It's a good spring beer," DeSilva said.

He's bottled 300 Bottle Rockets, which will be distributed to each SBC in Connecticut (the Southport location will get 75).

Once they're sold out, that's it, DeSilva said.

Customers can also celebrate Connecticut Beer Week with one of SBC's brews on tap.

The most popular SBC brew is the Big Head Blonde, according to bartender Rob. He recommends the Connecticut Pale Ale, which he described as a "very well-rounded beer."

CT Beer Week runs from May 11 - 18. For more, see the website: www.ctbeerweek.com
