No Job Too Small for Fairfield's 'Small Jobs Company'

Fairfield resident Jeffrey Melaragno launched his niche business to take on the home improvement and maintenance projects that contractors don't usually take on.

No job is too small for Jeffrey Melaragno, owner of The Small Jobs Company in Fairfield.

Since launching the home improvement business in November, Melaragno's work has run the gamut: he's been asked to complete small tasks assemble a ping pong table, replace door hinges, switch out light fixtures as well as larger projects, like building and installing custom cabinets and bookcases.

The longtime Fairfield resident and former member of the corporate world, Melaragno decided to take his passion for home improvement projects and renovations and create a niche business that caters to tasks most contractors deem to small to do.

"[The Small Jobs Company] became a way to fill a unique need for someone to focus on small to medium upgrades that contractors don't usually take on," Melaragno said.

Though his former job experience was rooted in human resources, Melaragno has over a decade in experience with home maintenance projects and renovations. He and his brother have r three properties in Connecticut and he's always been interested in the field, taking classes and "learning on the job."

Melaragno found that, in talking to family, friends, and fellow residents in Fairfield, that time -- or lack of it -- is a concern.

"People are time-stretched between work, family, and being part of the community," he said. "There's not a lot of spare time to do what they want to do."

By creating a company based on completing small-to-medium repairs and projects and the occasional odd jobs, Melaragno hopes to "give people a little more peace of mind" when it comes to their free time.

In addition to projects, renovations, and repairs, The Small Jobs Company also offers two programs for homeowners: "Hassle-Free Home" and "Home Orientation."

Hassle-Free Home is meant to create "condo-style living" for homeowners when it comes to repairs, Melaragno said. When you live in a condo and you need a repair, you call the property manager -- essentially that's what the Small Jobs Company can be for those who own their homes.

The Home Orientation service is for both new and longtime homeowners. Melaragno will walk residents through their homes, tag items, like the circuit breaker and water meter, and explain their basic functions and how to use them.

The Small Jobs Company also provides discounts for senior citizens, first responders, and members of the Armed Forces.

"It's my small way of trying to pay back those who groups for what they've done for us and our communities," Melaragno said.
