Yellow Cab Acquires Fairfield Cab Company

Yellow Cab of Bridgeport has reportedly taken over operations of , which the state Department of Transportation had by Wednesday due to numerous safety violations.

According to a report in the Fairfield Citizen, the transition was seamless, with no interruption of service to the . Yellow Cab personnel are already manning the small dispatch office at the station and the company reportedly has six taxis serving Fairfield, the report by the Citizen's Genevieve Reilly states. The owner, Ray Longo, is reportedly working out details for leasing the office space and six parking spaces at the station with the .

The report does not state whether any of Fairfield Cab Company’s former drivers are now working for Yellow Cab.

Last month it was reported that Fairfield-based start-up Red Dot Taxi, which recently moved its headquarters from Bridgeport to Commerce Drive in Fairfield, had to expand its operations. That move had reportedly been delayed due to a judicial appeal of a recent state Department of Transportation decision that denied permits for two other cab companies.

In a related incident, on Thursday, March 2 the owner of Red Dot Taxi and a Yellow Cab driver got into a verbal argument over parking spaces for their taxis that . Both companies have been offered the opportunity to rent parking spaces at the site following Fairfield Cab’s shutdown.
