Retailers Now Hiring For Holiday Season

Holiday employment can evolve into a full time job because job-seekers can prove their abilities and make contact with decision-makers and others who can help them network.

Connecticut BBB Offers 5 Tips to Help you Get Hired

If you are looking to get your foot in the door for temporary or full time employment at a major retailer or local shop, now is the time to start applying.  Connecticut Better Business Bureau says some big chains already have announced plans to hire tens of thousands of temporary employees for the holidays.

While there is no guarantee that the seasonal work will evolve into full time employment, these kinds of opportunities allow job-seekers to get some real time experience, prove their abilities and make contact with decision-makers and others who can help them network.

“The holiday shopping season typically offers tremendous employment opportunities,” according to Connecticut Better Business Bureau President, Paulette Scarpetti.  “The hiring has already begun.”

Connecticut BBB says there are several ways applicants can position themselves as ideal candidates:

Start the job search now - The key to landing a seasonal job is to start searching right away.  Retail stores, shipping companies, restaurants, florists and caterers are common sources of seasonal employment, and now is the time for job hunters to determine which job suits them best, identify companies they’d like to work for and begin submitting applications and resumes.

Search for opportunities - Check local business websites, use Internet search engines and check social media sites for employment-related postings.

Apply where you shop -A good starting point is businesses where you shop. One advantage of applying for work where you shop is that you will already be familiar with the company and its products.  In addition, employees often receive store discounts that can range from 20-40 percent, helping pay for holiday expenses.

Put your best foot forward - Even if you are just picking up applications at stores in the mall, dress your best and be prepared for an interview.  Preparations include being familiar with the company’s brand and products.  Retail job hunters in particular need to focus on impressing potential employers with their customer service skills—which is a must when dealing with stressed-out shoppers, long check-out lines and day-after-Christmas returns.

Be flexible - Full-time employees usually have first dibs on the preferred hours and shifts, so, as a seasonal employee, expect to work long, sometimes inconvenient hours including working on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.  If this is a second job in addition to your day job, be upfront and clear with your new employer about your available hours.

Be carefulCriminals have been posting fake job postings using the name of existing businesses.  Legitimate employers will never ask for money for a background check, nor require personal information such as your Social Security or bank account numbers through web-based sites, email or by telephone.

the word bewegan http://www.outletcoachstoday.com meant "to cover, envelop", http://www.coachoutletod.com rather than "to move". http://www.coachs-outletcar.com Preference of one synonym http://www.coachoutletdp.com over another also causes http://www.coachoutletwo.com differentiation in lexis, even http://www.coachfactoryoutletsp.com where both words are Germanic, as http://www.coachfactoryoutletli.net in English care vs. German Sorge. http://www.coachfactoryoutletce.org Both words descend http://www.coachoutletonlinelc.net from Proto-Germanic *karō and *surgō respectively, http://www.coachoutletonlinesc.com/ but *karō has become the dominant http://www.coachoutletonlinelsa.com word in English http://www.louisvuittonoutletct.com for "care" while in German, Dutch, http://www.louisvuittonoutletti.org and Scandinavian http://www.coachoutletrf.com languages, the http://www.coachfactoryonlinebp.com *surgō root prevailed. *Surgō still survives in http://www.coachoutletuser.net English, however, as sorrow.

Atticus, Ralph Arnone is next scheduled to appear in court on July 1st, at which point he isRead More expected to enter a plea. As an aside, one isn't supposed to go to bed and wake up still angry at the same thing, day in, day out, week in, week out, month in, month out... I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I care deeply about firefighters and I'm genuinely concerned about you. You were exposed to a lot of chemicals in your career. You may have some endocrine system damage or something causing an electrolyte disorder. This stuff starts out with things like joint pain and minor psychological implications but, it gets much, much worse. Get to the doc. Maybe you're just a spicy guy, maybe Ralph hurt you in some terrible way, or maybe you are sick and as a result, you'll be facing a much shortened a painful life. Honestly, I'm not trying to give you a hard time or pick a fight.

Well thanks for your concern Creeky. But at my age I cant say I have lived a shorten life. As forRead More chemicals...well as most of the posters here on this rag say, firemen do nothing 99.9% of the day so I guess the on chemical exposure would be to the big comfy leather chairs in the dayroom. Why do you care anyway Creeky? In your previous posts about me you said, don't feed to trolls. You are not honest Creeky. Take your fake concern and false "honesty" and waste it on someone else. Not trying to give you a hard time, those are your comments about me. Where did you get the info on Ralphy?
Creeky June 19, 2013 at 08:05 am
Atticus, review your own posts. It isn't trolling. It's a vendetta. If you think I'm dishonest,Read More fine. I'm not going to try to speak rationally with someone whom is irrational. Why do I care? Because I've seen how much care fireman are capable of, and how much they give of themselves. It's respect and karma. As far as where I got the info, it's publicly available. If you wanted my help in how to find it yourself, perhaps you shouldn't have attacked my character. You are on your own now.
