Let's hear it for the red, white, and rose'...wines, that is!

For me, this weather calls for some light refreshing wines, not the big, bold, dark and dirty wines I favor in the colder months.

For me, this weather calls for some light refreshing wines, not the big, bold, dark and dirty wines I favor in the colder months. Pairing wines with food for me always comes down to one important factor...drink what you like.

Tired of the old go-to Pinot Grigio? Me too. Why not make the switch to a clean, crisp Gavi, made from the Cortese grape in Piedmonte, Italy. The 2008 Araldica 'La Luciana' Gavi is light straw in color. Aromas of grapefruit, green apple and lemon mingle together in a lighter style wine with mineral overtones. This wine ends with a refreshing dry finish. This wine pairs perfectly with summer salads and seafood, or as an aperitif just on its own. The Araldici Gavi sells for about $14.00.

In the mood for something pink? A french rose´ is just the wine for you! Imagine sitting down and swirling a glass of pure pink bliss. Open a bottle of the 2010 Chateau de Lancyre Pic Saint Loup Rose´ and aromas of watermelon, strawberries and a bit of cold, wet stone waft up to greet your nose and make your mouth water for what is to come. Cool, refreshing acidity greets your tongue as you take your first sip. Bright red fruit refreshes you and the acidity in the wine brings you back for more. This fuller style rose´ pairs well with hearty salads, grilled vegetables, and kebabs. The price for the Lancyre Rose´ is approximately $17.99.

If you are looking for a summer red, I have just the thing for you. Why not try an Oregon Pinot Noir slightly chilled? I know, you are not used to chilling red wines, but on a hot summer night, it's the perfect way to drink this wine. The 2009 King Estate Pinot Noir shows dark cherry, raspberry, rose petals and oak spice on the nose. When you taste it, you will find blackberry, cherry and baking spice flavors dance along your tongue. There are some tannins in this Pinot Noir and they go well with the acidity and long finish. Pair this delicious summer red with just about anything. Rack of lamb, roast chicken or even plank smoked salmon will go with this tasty Pinot Noir. King Estate farms organically and this tasty Pinot Noir sells for about $28.00.

Cheers!
