Anti-Abuse Fundraiser Scheduled June 23

Center for Women & Families of Eastern Fairfield County Hosts Evening of International Wine Tasting and Local Cuisine at Tashua Knolls in Trumbull

Editor's note: The following news release was submitted by The Center for Women & Families of Eastern Fairfield County, which opened a satellite office in the Fairfield Senior Center, 100 Mona Terrace, in October.

Statistics confirm that abuse, both domestic and sexual, occurs not only in cities but in towns of every size, and that includes suburbia, according to Debra Greenwood, CEO of The Center for Women &  Families of Eastern Fairfield County.

Consequently, a fundraiser to support the organization’s lifesaving services in Easton, Monroe and Trumbull, as well as in Stratford, Fairfield and Bridgeport will be held Thursday, June 23, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Tashua Knolls golf course, Tashua Lane, Trumbull.

During an evening of International Wine Tasting & Local Cuisine, annual statistics on The Center’s success in its fight against domestic and sexual abuse will be revealed town by town.

“Unfortunately, even our most recent numbers only reflect reported cases that have come to the attention of The Center,” said Greenwood. “There are hundreds of cases that go unreported and some in which the abuse is simply not recognized."

“Abuse can be physically violent, sexual or chillingly silent but just as destructive,” she said.

“Bullying in school is the beginning of abuse. That’s why The Center’s in-school programs are so important. The proceeds from the event will, in fact, save damaged lives. Because abuse is so well hidden, the life you save could be your neighbor’s or your friend’s.”

The event is being hosted by The Center and Wines Unlimited of Monroe. Pre-paid reservations are $40 per person. Call 203-459-9089 or visit www.CWFefc.org.  Space is limited. Tickets at the door will be $50 per person on a space available basis.
