Car Break-Ins, Garage Thefts Reported in Fairfield

Police are investigating the larcenies.

An Argonne Street resident reported items were stolen from his garage sometime in the last few days, police said.

According to the report, the garage’s side and rear door had been left unlocked. A weed whacker (valued at $200-$300), DeWalt AM/FM radio ($100) and a stepladder ($40) were taken, the complainant told police.

A complainant reported to police Thursday that her car had been broken in to sometime between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. Thursday when it was parked on Harris Street.

The passenger side window of the vehicle was smashed, according to the report. Stolen were a Garmin Nuvi GPS ($250) and a purse ($150). The purse contained cash, a driver’s license, and personal items, department spokesperson Sgt. Fred Hine said.

The window will cost $300 to repair, police estimated. This is under investigation.

An Algonquin Road resident reported to police Friday that her car was broken into sometime overnight.

Someone had smashed the passenger side window of the resident’s Land Rover and stole cash and several credit cards, police said. The vehicle was parked in the complainant’s driveway.

Police checked activity on the credit cards and found that one card was used at 4:25 a.m. to make a $112 purchase online. Another card was used twice in the next 20 minutes to make two purchases on the same website. The transactions totaled $176 and $259 on the second card.

The cost to repair the window of the card was unknown at the time of the report. This is under investigation.
