Damage From Irene Felt in Fairfield

The storm's impact is visible throughout town.

Access to the beach is cut off, roads are littered with debris and thousands are without power.

Hurricane Irene's impact in Fairfield is certainly not hard to find. The storm downed several trees and branches throughout town -- closing some streets and making travel on others somewhat like an obstacle course.

The roads were relatively clear of vehicles at about noon. Those who were out appeared to be exercising caution. Some residents on Old Field Road were walking outside, assessing damage to one of the town's historic disticts.

The majority of people were congregated at Dunkin' Donuts and Duchess on the Post Road -- those businesses may be among the only ones open downtown, if not throughout Fairfield. The parking lot at Dunkin' was overflowing with vehicles and the line of customers crowded the relatively small space.
