Yankees superstar calls the family of fallen Newtown teacher Victoria 'Vicki' Soto.

New York Yankees star shortshop Derek Jeter called the family of Victoria "Vicki" Soto on Wednesday, the same day the hero teacher from Stratford was laid to rest.

"Derek Jeter just called my mom!!!!!" Soto's sister, Carlee, tweeted Wednesday night. "...thank you @yankees this meant a lot to my mother and all of us."

Soto was a big fan of the New York Yankees, according to her obituary.

The Yankees confirmed the phone call, but declined to comment about what was said, according to a report on ESPNNewYork.com.

The call came on the same day the 27-year-old teacher credited with saving the lives of her students by sacrificing her own was buried.

Hundreds gathered at Lordship Community Church Wednesday morning to honor the fallen teacher, one of the 26 victims in the Newtown elementary school shooting last Friday.

"You are in so many people's hearts," said Soto's sister, Jillian, during the service. "For the 19 children you protected you were an angel [and] you've been my hero my entire life."

"My best friend is gone and I am so lost without her," said Carlee Soto. "The pain is unbelievable but I know I can get through this [because I knew Vicki]. I am proud to say I'm Victoria Soto's little sister."

Soto was the oldest of four siblings and was termed the "head cousin" by a speaker during the funeral service.

"She truly made you feel loved every day," said one of her cousins.
