Friday

  • Holiday Book Sale: 9 a.m., Fairfield Public Library. "The Friends of the Fairfield Public Library will have their annual Holiday Book Sale on Saturday, December 1 through Friday, December 21 at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road.  The sale will be held during regular Library hours.  There will be a large selection of children’s and young adult books, as well as holiday books and adult fiction.  There will also be some “special” books, such as collector and antiquarian books, available. All proceeds from the book sale, which is run by the Friends of the Fairfield Library, will benefit the Library."
  • Shawn Colvin: 7 p.m., Fairfield Theatre Company, $85. "Standing out front of the world's female singer songwriters, Shawn Colvin is a singular and enduring talent."
  • New Haven Symphony Orchestra Holiday Extravaganza! 8 p.m., Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, $40. "Hitch up the reindeer and fly to the Quick Center for the NHSO Pops Holiday Extravaganza! Join in a holiday concert celebration with full orchestra that's packed with yuletide cheer and orchestra classics. Snuggle under the mistletoe and join in the festive audience sing-a-long. "New England Ballet Company, Resident Ballet Company of the Klein Memorial Auditorium will present one performance only on Saturday, December 15 at 2:00 p.m. featuring guest artists from American Ballet Theatre, Yuriko Kajiya performing the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Mr. Matthews performing the role of Sugar Plum Cavalier."
  • Chanukah Party at the Fairfield University Bookstore: 4 p.m. - 5 p.m., Fairfield University Bookstore, free. "Anot will lead the group with stories, games, prizes and snacks. Please call to reserve your spot! Perfect for young children up to age 10."
  • Raul Malo: 7 p.m., Fairfield Theatre Company, $35. "Raul Malo carries a near-legendary singing voice that poured wild dark honey over the Mavericks' country rock throughout the 1990s and in recent years has erased genre lines."

  • Holiday Run for Toys: 8:15 a.m. to register, 9:30 a.m. race start, The Scandinavian Club, $10 day of race, $8 with toy donation. Bring a new, unwrapped toy for kids 1-16 to support the to for the Fairfield Police Benevolent Association's holiday toy drive for children at Bridgeport Hospital.
  • Feral Care Cat/Kitten Adoption: 12 p.m. - 4 p.m., Choice Pet Supply. "Feral Care will hold an adoption day at our Fairfield location. Please come down to see all the beautiful cats and kittens. For more information, please go to: www.feralcare.com."

Was last year the year the BOE returned $ to the town? Absolutely agree with you about the middle school, we need more STEM offerings. Right now high schoolers are required to show they are proficient in Microsoft Office. Many take a semester long course to help prepare for the test (seems like that time could be better spent). Other students just take the proficiency test. Seems like this can be something that can be addressed earlier than high school. Why not offer the course to 8th graders, and let them show they are proficient in Microsoft Office before they even get to high school.

There are at least five separate buses that pick up children in front of my hose on Jennings road each morning 4 of which are all elementary. Can all these children in a two block radius go to different schools and if they do why. all the buses are almost empty when they pick up these children. Why then potentially are we paying all this money for buses when less can be used?

For flat, easy terrain, the beach area and old post road offer the best situations. On weekendsRead More you'll find plenty of bike riders in the area so you'll have some company and there is plenty of scenery. Also, there are a couple of multi-use off-road paths located at Ash Creek (near Fairfield Metro Station) and Pine Creek.
