Family, Friends Gather for Grace McDonnell

A steady stream of people turn out for the Sandy Hook School student's wake at St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown.

As the bell tolled at St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown Thursday afternoon, family and friends of Grace Audrey McDonnell stepped inside to show their love and pay their respects.

Grace was born on Nov. 4, 2005. She was one of the 26 victims of the Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook School.

Outside the church, in the parking lot, Philip Melchionne of Prospect and Mark Dawley of Newtown—both members of the Knights of Columbus—helped direct traffic.

The two said they felt honored to help the McDonnell family, and all those impacted by the tragedy. In addition to helping direct traffic, Dawley said KOC members have been cleaning churches following services, transporting elderly residents to and from services, and helping make sure the cemeteries are clear and prepared.

Basically, Dawley said, "Anything that needs to be done to ease the burden off the family."

"I have three girls and if something happened to one of them I would hope that my fellow Knights would come to my need," Melchionne said.

A Memorial Mass for Grace McDonnell was scheduled today at 11 a.m. at St. Rose, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown.

Thomas Paine, good to hear from you. I heard you died, like, a 100 years ago! Anyway, you'reRead More right, but what does it matter? No one attending this meeting is interested in anything balanced. I don't know if you've had much opportunity to spend time in Sandy Hook but, that's a broken community. The emotional level is really, really high. More than anything, these folks have a need to "do something" (rather than address their hurt and seek closure). This is a meeting for people to pour out emotion, and find a common enemy (guns) to blame. There is no debate there. There is nothing for you there. If this is what they need, let them have it. The adversarial approach is bound for failure anyway. People get tired of listening to it, and tired of the threats. Also keep in mind, there are a bunch of these folks that earn their living doing this now (screwed up!) and they need to be very careful in how they manage their publicity to stay within IRS non-profit rules--political action is not community enrichment is not a church--got to keep them separated.

FHA Exposed, you can rest. She turned herself in:Read More http://www.justice.gov/usao/ct/Press2013/20130604.html If you are looking for some comeuppance for those that kept this quiet, and handled what they could out of the public's eye, I wish you success in your endeavors, and the best of luck--I think you'll need it.

Atticus, Ralph Arnone is next scheduled to appear in court on July 1st, at which point he isRead More expected to enter a plea. As an aside, one isn't supposed to go to bed and wake up still angry at the same thing, day in, day out, week in, week out, month in, month out... I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I care deeply about firefighters and I'm genuinely concerned about you. You were exposed to a lot of chemicals in your career. You may have some endocrine system damage or something causing an electrolyte disorder. This stuff starts out with things like joint pain and minor psychological implications but, it gets much, much worse. Get to the doc. Maybe you're just a spicy guy, maybe Ralph hurt you in some terrible way, or maybe you are sick and as a result, you'll be facing a much shortened a painful life. Honestly, I'm not trying to give you a hard time or pick a fight.
