Moment of Silence Friday Morning in Fairfield to Honor Newtown

The moment of silence will be held statewide -- and perhaps nationwide -- at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

The bell at Old Town Hall will toll 26 times Friday morning of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

The town of Fairfield is asking residents to participate in a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. During this moment, the bell will be rung in memory the lives cut short on Friday, Dec. 14.

Gov. Dannel Malloy has proclaimed Friday, Dec. 21, a "Day of Mourning" across the state and asks that all residents take part in the moment of silence. He has also requested that government buildings and places of worship ring their bells 26 times Friday morning.

Malloy has written a letter to every governor in the country, asking that each state support Connecticut in this moment of silence on Friday.
