More Young Adults Calling Nutmeg State Home Since 2000

According to 2010 Census figures, Connecticut has 4 percent more 25- to 34-year-olds in 2010 than it had 15-to-24-year-olds in 2000.

 

A recent analysis of by the Connecticut Department of Labor reveals that the number of young adults living in the state has increased over the past 10 years, according to the Hartford Courant.

According to economist Patrick Flaherty, Connecticut had 4 percent more 25- to 34-year-olds in 2010 than it had 15-to-24-year-olds in 2000. This growth rate puts the state ahead of Massachusetts plus 23 other states that saw a decrease when the same two categories were compared.

The moving habits of Connecticut residents in 2010 were also analyzed: 11,200 people living in the state moved to Florida in 2010, while 13,000 residents moved to Massachusetts. On the other hand, 9,200 Florida residents, 8,500 Massachusetts residents and 5,000 New York residents moved to Connecticut last year.

Overall, less than 12 percent of U.S. residents moved from 2010 to 2011.
