Police Release Name of Trooper Injured in Sunday Accident in Fairfield

Trooper Ryan Sawicki was parked at Exit 46 on the Merritt Parkway when a Honda driven by Bryce Poland of 34 Old Country Rd., Monroe, veered off the road and struck his cruiser, according to a report on WTNH.

A Connecticut State Trooper was transported to the hospital with minor injuries following a two-vehicle accident on the Merritt Parkway in early Sunday morning.

According to a report on WTNH, Trooper Ryan Sawicki was parked at Exit 46 when a Honda driven by Bryce Poland of 34 Old Country Rd., Monroe, veered off the road and struck his cruiser. Sawicki was reportedly taken to St. Vincent's Hospital for treatment.

The accident was one of two that occurred within an hour of each other on the Merritt during the early morning hours Sunday: As reported on Sunday, a motorist escaped without injuries in a motor vehicle rollover with fire that occurred at about 3:20 a.m. on the southbound side between exits 44 and 42.

When first responders arrived they reportedly found the driver and sole occupant outside the vehicle, with the car on its roof and in flames, according to a report from Assistant Chief Chris Tracy of the . The also responded to the scene.

The female driver was reportedly treated by paramedics on the scene but declined further treatment and transport, according to Assistant Chief Tracy's report.

Tracy informed of the accident involving the State Trooper in his report on Sunday, however the trooper's name and his condition were not available at the time.
