Report: Attorney Receives Death Threats After Sandy Hook Filing

Irving Pinsky says the threats came after he sought permission to file a $100 million lawsuit on behalf of a child survivor's family.

An attorney who wants to sue the state because his client says officials did not do enough to protect the Sandy Hook Elementary School community has reportedly received more than 50 death threats.

Irving Pinsky, a New Haven-based attorney, told the New Haven Independent that he has received the threats after he filed notice with the state's claims commissioner asking permission to file a $100 million lawsuit on behalf of the family of a 6-year-old survivor. He says the unnamed girl was traumatized after what she heard and witnessed during the school shooting on Dec. 14.

The Independent also states that Pinsky is in the process of withdrawing the filing in order to "calm the divisiveness and tremors," but he reserved all rights to refile based on some "new evidence" he has received.

That decision comes on the heels of a response to Pinsky's claim from state Attorney General George Jepsen, who said, "Although the investigation is still under way, we are aware of no facts or legal theory under which the State of Connecticut should be liable for causing the harms inflicted at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Nor does the claim letter filed in this case identify a valid basis to support a claim against the state and, by extension, its taxpayers.”

Pinsky's claim is that the state failed to protect Sandy Hook from "foreseeable harm."
