Sacred Heart U to Hold Liturgy for Newtown Victims Monday

All are welcome. The service will take place at noon at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit on campus.

Sacred Heart University will host a special service today, Monday, at noon for the community of Newtown and Sandy Hook Elementary School. The following are remarks from the university's president, John J. Petillo:

"I want to invite you all to a liturgy on Monday, December 17, at noon for the Newtown victims, their families and the entire Newtown community. Not only are they our neighbors, but this University has some close personal ties to Newtown. These include students, faculty and staff who call Newtown home and a relationship between the Farrington College of Education and the Newtown Board of Education.

The prayer service will take place in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. I am encouraging all University offices to close at that time to allow employees to attend. We will reopen after lunch. Shuttle buses will be available to transport staff from Oakview and Cambridge.

Scripture tells us that wherever two or more are gathered in his name, there is love. Let us come together to express in prayer our love for one another and our hope for healing for those who have been impacted by this tragedy.

For all those who have left campus for the semester break, please take a moment at noon, wherever you are, to remember all our friends in Newtown."
