Snow, Sleet Forecast Tonight for Fairfield [UPDATED]

The National Weather Service is reporting up to 1 to 2 inches of snow and sleet to fall in Fairfield by morning.

Update, 3:30 p.m.

All Fairfield Public School afternoon and evening activities, including the fifth grade math parent night, are cancelled.

The Department of Motor Vehicles has announced that all road tests scheduled before 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, are cancelled due to expected inclement weather and poor road conditions. Testing will resume at 1 p.m.

Anyone with a cancelled road test can call DMV to choose a new date. Call  800-842-8222 to reschedule. DMV is also attempting to contact customers with road test appointments to advise them of the schedule change.

Old Man Winter might have at least one more trick up his sleeve.

According to the National Weather Service, a wintry mix could bring one to two inches of snow and sleet to the area overnight. The forecasts for tonight and tomorrow by that service are as follows:

  • Tonight: Snow before midnight, then rain, snow, and sleet between midnight and 1 a.m., then rain and sleet after 1 a.m. Low around 33. Breezy, with a east wind 20 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
  • Tuesday: Rain, mainly before 3 p.m. High near 44. East wind 13 to 18 mph becoming north 6 to 11 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Tuesday Night: A chance of showers, mainly before 7 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. West wind around 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
