Thousands Pay Respect to Dawn Hochsprung [PHOTO GALLERY]

The Connecticut community and beyond came to Woodbury on Wednesday, Dec. 19, to honor and protect a beloved woman and her family.

First, the motorcycle riders came, assembling on the North Green in Woodbury. They came from Connecticut and beyond: Waterbury, Norwalk, New York, Massachusetts, to provide support to the Connecticut community.

Then the Woodbury Lions Club set up tables with donuts from Dottie's Diner, coffee and hot chocolate, in the parking lot of Woodbury Saw & Mower.

Slowly, the mourners gathered to say good-bye to Dawn Hochsprung, who died bravely protecting the school she loved on Friday, Dec. 14.

The mourners held onto the complimentary snacks and warm drinks as the air cooled and the wind picked up.

"Nobody stands alone in America," said Kevin Barry of Woodbury Saw & Mower.

He said New Morning Market was coming with tea and coffee later and as the afternoon wore on, pizzas were brought to the people standing in line, waiting to pay their respects to Hochsprung at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home.

Luminarias were carefully placed on the lawn in front of Munson-Lovetere, spelling out the word "Hope."

The line of people to attend Hochsprung's services wound all the way past Mitchell Elementary School and down a side street, past a memorial for the children and adults of Sandy Hook Elementary.
