View Finder: Memorial Day Parade’s Soggy Start

Crowd's spirit not dampened from morning thunderstorm

As the skies darkened, buckets of rain came down, thunder rumbled and lightning flashed early morning Monday, it seemed as if Fairfield’s Memorial Day parade, scheduled for a 10 a.m. start, would be a wash. Miraculously, the storm passed, revelers dried off the chairs and tarps they had placed along the parade route and the event commenced as scheduled. Despite air that quickly became heavy and humid, crowds cheered and clapped as dozens of parade entries passed. This included all the school, military, police and fire groups, veterans organizations, Shriners and more, successfully sending another parade occasion into the town’s history books.
