What's Open, Closed Thanksgiving Weekend

Here's what's open and here's what's closed on Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday and the weekend.

Thanksgiving is a federal holiday and the beginning of a four-day weekend for many people. Here's what's open and what's closed, what closes early on Wednesday and what bus or train schedules are the same or different.

Stores

Know whether any stores are open or closed on Thanksgiving or have different hours through the weekend? Tell us in the comments!

 

Closing early Wednesday

  • Fairfield Public Schools are on an early dismissal schedule (see PDF of school calendar attached to this article)
  • The Fairfield Public Library and the Fairfield Woods Branch close at 5 p.m.

Thanksgiving Day

The following are CLOSED Thanksgiving Day:

  • Fairfield Public Schools (see PDF of school calendar attached to this article)
  • Fairfield Public Library Main and Woods branches (and other libraries in the area, including Pequot Library in Southport)
  • State offices (PDF of state holiday schedule attached to this article)
  • Fairfield town government
  • Banks have the option of staying open or closed — in practice, all or nearly all are closed on Thanksgiving Day (and this is one of the four holidays this year that TD Bank is closed)

The following are OPEN Thanksgiving Day:

  • Some restaurants
  • Grocery stores
  • Other businesses: open at the owner’s discretion.

BUS/TRAIN SCHEDULES:

  • Metro-North's New Haven Line (link to PDF of special schedule)

Black Friday

OPEN:

  • Department of Motor Vehicles regional service centers and major service offices will be open starting at 7:45 a.m.
  • American Automobile Association (AAA) offices will be open to process driver’s license renewals during their normal Friday business hours.
  • State offices (PDF of state holiday schedule attached to this article)
  • Fairfield Transfer Station — normal hours — 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Nearly all stores and banks
  • The Pequot Library will be open for its Black Friday sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

CLOSED:

  • Fairfield town government (PDF of town holiday schedule attached to this article)
  • Fairfield Public Schools (see PDF of school calendar attached to this article)
  • Fairfield Public Library Main Branch and Woods Branch

BUS/TRAIN SCHEDULES:

  • Metro-North's New Haven Line (link to PDF of special FRIDAY schedule)

Saturday

OPEN:

  • Department of Motor Vehicles regional service centers and major service offices will be open for normal business hours from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • American Automobile Association offices will be open to process driver’s license renewals during their normal Saturday business hours.
  • Fairfield Public Library — normal hours (1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays for the main library, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. for the Woods branch); Pequot Library in Southport is also open for normal hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • Fairfield Transfer Station — normal hours — 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

BUS/TRAIN SCHEDULES:
