UI, CL&P Seeking Contestants for Energy SuperSTARS Challenge!

Whether you own a home or rent an apartment, it’s likely that you hunt for ways to reduce your energy bill.  Sure, you might turn off lights and open windows rather than turning on the A/C, but once the do-it-yourself steps are done, where do you go from there?

Now, with the help of the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund and its utility partners, Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) and The United Illuminating Company (UI), you can get smarter on reducing your energy bill and be rewarded for taking deeper action.  As part of the new Energize Connecticut initiative, the Energy Efficiency Fund is launching its first-ever “Energy SuperSTARS Challenge” for four qualified UI and CL&P residential customers – a contest to increase home energy efficiency practices and awareness across Connecticut.

“This challenge is a very real and visible way to get Connecticut residents excited about energy efficiency, and it comes at a time when the Energize Connecticut initiative is truly taking off,” said Jamie Howland of ENE (Environment Northeast) and First Vice Chairperson, Connecticut Energy Efficiency Board.  “Energize Connecticut is part of Governor Malloy’s Comprehensive Energy Strategy geared towards making Connecticut number one in the nation when it comes to energy efficiency.  Getting to number one starts with our residents and this Challenge will incent qualified participants for the energy efficiency strides they take.”

Here’s how it works: CL&P and UI customers that are interested in participating can fill out an application online at Energize Connecticut’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/energizect.   The Energy SuperSTARS Challenge will be accepting applications via Facebook through June 21, 2013.

Applications will be carefully reviewed by CL&P and UI, and four qualified residential contestants will be chosen based on single-story or multi-level home categories that are within 1,000 to 4,000 square feet.  From there, with the helping hand of an “Energy Coach,” the contestants will be followed over a six-month period throughout their journey to energy efficiency.   “The first step of the process is getting a home energy assessment through Energize Connecticut’s Home Energy Solutions program. This will provide a sound starting point to identify key components such as how much energy is being lost through leaky doors or windows or what appliances might be outdated and inefficient,” Howland added.

“Typically, there is a small co-pay for the home energy service, but the contestants will get this waived for sharing their stories and allowing us to help them make informed energy choices.”   At the end of the Challenge, the contestants will be rewarded “Energy Dollars” to be used towards an energy efficiency project in their homes.  In other words, these energy dollars will take participants to the next level of energy efficiency with the help of rebates and program financing options, further driving down their energy bills, saving money, energy and the environment.

If you are a CL&P or UI customer that is willing to share your story, just go to Facebook, fill out the form and let us know. You could be selected as an Energy SuperSTAR!
