375th Commemorative Lecture--Puritans, Pequots and the Work of Memory

An Untamed Wilderness: Puritans, Pequots, and the Work of Memory--Lecture by Dr. Kathleen Donegan, March 8, 2014, 4:00 pm

The story of colonial settlement is also a story of deep unsettlement.  This lecture will tell the story of the founding of Fairfield while exploring the work of memory itself.  Commemoration--the act of remembering together--calls us to recognize ourselves both as inheritors of that wilderness history and as shapers of its living future.  "We look back with honesty so we can move forward with integrity" said
the Rev. Jennifer Campbell.  Co-sponsors Fairfield Museum & History Center, and
History and American Studies Departments of Fairfield University.  A reception follows so that participants can meet Dr. Donegan and continue the dialogue.
