A Cappella Night 2014:

Harvard students come to Fairfield to harmonize with local music groups

On Friday, February 21st, Tomlinson Middle School will host the tenth annual “A cappella Night.”  The concert will feature several groups in the Fairfield Public Schools, including FLHS’  “Close Harmony” (which has opened for Rockapella) under the direction of Kevin Cotellese.  Also performing will be “A cappella Too” from FLHS and the Tomlinson “Rolling Strones” both under the direction of Sara Hoefer along with Fairfield Woods’ “Frawl-out Boy” directed by Carole Frawley and Roger Ludlowe Middle School’s “Middle Ground” directed by Amy Lafond.  Both “Muse” and “Overtones” from Fairfield Warde High School under the direction of Lauren Harmata will perform as well.  We will welcome the Harvard Opportunes to our stage featuring TMS and FLHS alum Sara Wiant.

A cappella Night, which first began is 2004, was aimed at bringing a cappella music to middle school students.  Many middle school chorus students had never been exposed to a cappella music and Mrs. Hoefer wanted to show them what it was like and how techniques learned in chorus can be applied outside of traditional choral music.  The program grew from there.  Now, each year, different guest college groups come to the middle schools to work with singers in workshops during the afternoon.  The groups then stay and that evening perform along with the local high school a cappella groups.  

The concert will be held in the Tomlinson Middle School auditorium on Unquowa Road.  It will begin at 7pm.  Admission is $5 per ticket or $10 per family paid at the door.  A cappella Night is a great concert!  It showcases local talent and allows students and parents to hear performers from different town schools at one musical event.  It also gives students and parents the opportunity to see a college level group.  We hope that you can join us for the event!
