Author Speaks About America's Cup at Pequot Yacht Club

Author Mark Gabrielson to Speak at
PYC on America’s Cup History

Sunday, October 27 at 4PM

Move over Larry Ellison, Kiwis,
and Aussies!  There was a time when
America’s Cup crews were made up entirely of Americans!  Come hear author Mark Gabrielson speak about
the crews recruited from Deer Isle, Maine for the America’s Cup races in 1895
and 1899 at Pequot Yacht Club on Sunday, October 27.  Mark will tell the story of how these forty unknown
men, mostly fishermen,  brought glory to
the America ‘s Cup and the NYYC but have remained unsung heroes until Mark’s
research brought their story to light in his new book,  Deer
Isle’s Undefeated America’s Cup Crews.

Mark’s research also uncovers
some of the controversies that arose during the races involving rules, money
and media coverage.  This is also the
first book written specifically about the crews, and for the first time, an all
American crew as well, all from the same town. John Rousmaniere, author of Fastnet and The Annapolis Book of Seamanship, writes of Mark’s book, “I love
this true, entertaining story of how sailors from a Maine fishing town twice
helped millionaires win the world’s most famous trophy.”
