BTC Presents: DREAMGIRLS

Bridgeport Theatre Company continues its fourth season with the award-winning musical DREAMGIRLS, running January 17-Feb 1.  All performances will take place at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre, 263 Golden Hill Street, Downtown Bridgeport.

Bridgeport Theatre Company, under the Artistic Direction of Eli Newsom, operates in residence and presents the Community Theatre Series for the Downtown Cabaret Theatre. BTC’s 2013/14 season kicked off with LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS in September and then followed with a one-night screening of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.  The remainder of the season includes TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, SHREK, New Works events, concerts, and fundraisers.

First a smash Broadway musical and recently an award-winning motion picture, DREAMGIRLS captures the spirit and hope of Motown when a girl group from Chicago makes it big. In a business controlled by men, the female trio fights for recognition, fellowship and love as superstardom challenges their musical and cultural identity. A rich, glowing spectacle about the price of show-biz success, DREAMGIRLS sizzles with sparkling dance and R&B soul. Based on the story of Diana Ross’ rise to fame, the show has made stars of Tony Award winner Jennifer Holliday and Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson.  The popular musical features the hit songs “Dreamgirls", "And I am Telling You I’m Not Going” and “One Night Only”.

The cast of 25 local performers includes Alana Cauthen as Effie White, Acacia Cannon as Effie White for the Saturday 5pm performances (Jan 18, 25, Feb 1), Danielle Summons as Deena Jones, Jessica Braun as Lorrell Robinson, Khallid Graham as Curtis Taylor, Jr., Sean Davis as James Thunder Early, Garth West as CC White, Ryan Elle as Michelle Morris, Everton Ricketts as Marty, John Rodgers as Wayne, Sampson Denny as Tiny Joe Dixon.  The ensemble includes Joe Cardozo, Josh Cardozo, Faith Fernandes, Timothy Fountain, Evelynne Fulda, Emma LaPlace, Kamilah Lindo, Tondrea Mabins, Kevin Pelkey, Cameron Phillips, Mikhail Reese, Cynthia Rivera, Sean Sepulveda, Statchakay Silvera, and Leondra Smith-West.

The production is Directed by Christy McIntosh (BTC’s Next to Normal and Hairspray), with Musical Direction by Stephanie Gaumer (who also leads a 7-piece live band) and Choreography by Emily Frangipane.

The regular performance run is as follows: Fridays @ 8pm: Jan 17 (opening), 24, 31; Saturdays at 5pm and 8:30pm:  Jan 18, 25, Feb 1 (closing); Sunday Jan 26 at 5pm; Thursday Jan 31 @ 7:30pm.  There will be a preview performance on Thursday Jan 16 @ 8pm, where all tickets are just $18. Seating begins 45 minutes before showtime, and an attended parking lot is available across from the theater on Golden Hill St.

Tickets are $28 for adults, $23 for seniors, and $18 for students and children. Concessions will be available for purchase throughout each performance and patrons are encouraged to pack picnics (BYO everything format) for the full 'Cabaret experience’. All ages are welcome!
