Fairfield Rotary 10th Annual Celebrity Luncheon Fundraiser

Please Come and Support the Fairfield Rotary's 10th Annual Celebrity Luncheon: Guest Speaker this year will be: Sal Marchiano was a television sports anchor and reporter on New York outlets for 41 years.The Brooklyn native and 1963 Fordham University graduate rst worked in radio in New York on WNEW and nationally on the Mutual Broadcasting System. He began his television career in 1967 working at CBS News as a national correspondent and at WCBS-TV as the weekend sports anchor and weekday reporter for Frank Gi-ord, the main anchor. In 1971, Sal moved on to WABC-TV in the same positions and also was a contributing correspondent for ABC's Wide World of Sports. He anchored an early morning sportscast on the ABC Radio Network. In 1980, he was an original cast member for the new sports network ESPN. He was an anchor on Sportscenter and hosted all of the boxing programs. Sal has covered World Series, Super Bowls, championship ghts and major thoroughbred racing. He is old enough to have interviewed Casey Stengel. His favorite assigment was The Thrilla in Manila, the third championship fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. Sal wrote a memoir "In My Rear View Mirror" which includes proles of Ali, Vince Lombardi, Mickey Mantle, Joe Namath and Howard Cosell. His daughter Sam followed him in sports reporting and worked for Fox Sports, The Major League Baseball Network and now the NFL Network. Sal lived in Westport and Faireld for a Combined 32 years and retired in 2008, happily ending his commuting on the Metro North. The Celebrity Luncheon is sponsored by the Faireld Rotary Club and is the Club’s major fundraiser of the year. The purpose of this luncheon is to have fun and to raise as much money as possible for Rotary-supported activities, such as the Gift of Life program, Polio Plus, Follies, scholarships, grants to local programs such as Operation Hope and the Bridgeport Rescue Mission, projects in India, Brazil and Zanzibar, and much more.
As our guest, your lunch has already been paid for. What we are asking you to do is to “tip” well. Typical donations range from $50 to $150. All donations go to support the important programs of the Faireld Rotary Club. Please make your tax-deductible check payable to The Faireld Rotary Foundation, a 501(c) (3) organization.
