Since Wakeman opened in 1913 there has been a commitment to programming excellence.   For the past 25 years we have made improvements annually to our lacrosse program and we are extremely excited to share the most recent development for the upcoming season.

We are pleased to announce that Wakeman Boys & Girls Club has entered into a long-term partnership with the Fairfield-based GameBreaker and Barracuda Lacrosse organization to manage and further develop Fairfield's premier CONNY lacrosse program! GameBreaker and Barracuda Lacrosse bring a wealth of talent and resources to the Wakeman lacrosse program that cannot be duplicated in this community. The Wakeman lacrosse program will be spearheaded by Taylor Nissi, the GameBreaker/Barracuda Director of Coaching, and Wakeman alum Chris Parisi, GameBreaker/Barracuda Head Coach, and Head Boys Lacrosse Coach at Fairfield Ludlowe High School. Additionally, Pete Greco, Assistant Coach at Sacred Heart University will serve as Wakeman's Lead Technical Coach and Field Supervisor.

As we embark on the Club's 100th anniversary year, we believe that this new partnership reaffirms our commitment to provide our community's youngsters with wholesome, character-building programs, which will assist them in becoming caring, responsible citizens.

As you probably already know, Wakeman has made several other important additions to the lacrosse program for 2013 to offer Fairfield's youth lacrosse players the best opportunity to learn from top coaches in a positive, character-based environment.

To review, here are some added highlights for the upcoming season:

  • Additional travel teams have been added for Grades 5-8, boys and girls, providing hundreds of new openings on the various travel teams

  • One 4th Grade Boys Travel team has been added

  • Training Camp sessions will be held before Travel Team tryouts to help shake the dust off and get ready for the season. These will be coached by our full GameBreaker and Barracuda staff.

  • We will be offering lacrosse for both boys and girls starting in 1st grade with Lax Buddy Skill Development Clinics

  • Progressive Instructional Curriculum, by grade, will be implemented

  • We have developed an enhanced House program that will provide an improved lacrosse curriculum and be further integrated with participation from travel team players

  • Increased technical coaching from the area's top coaches

  • New coaching support system for volunteer parent coaches that will include clinics by college coaches, practice plans, an online drill and library resources

  • Integration of the Lacrosse CAGE Philosophy - Character, Attitude, Growth, Effort

  • Expanded summer and fall opportunities

For 25 years, Wakeman has offered a superior combination of lacrosse and character development, and we are as proud of our alumni who are active in the community as we are of the large number of college and professional players who have come through our program.  With our dedicated turf field, CONNY membership, and professional coaching staff, Wakeman Boys & Girls Club has never been better positioned or more committed to continue the tradition of providing the best possible experience for our youth players.
