Important Conversations with Children in Times of Divorce: a Pathways to Parenting Program at the Fairfield Public Library

Divorce is a big change in most people's lives and whether it is called "amicable" or "contentious," children are uniquely impacted by the many big and small changes that divorce brings.  This workshop, presented by family therapist Dorothy Timmermann, will examine children's feelings and reactions to divorce.  Understanding the unique experience of children, and learning effective strategies to provide constructive support and minimize destructive behaviors, can do much to assist them in dealing with one of life's major changes. This program will take place Thursday, February 6 at 7:00 pm in the Rotary Room at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road, and would be valuable for child care professionals as well as parents. Registration is requested.

Dorothy Timmermann, LMFT is the Executive Director of Fairfield Counseling Services, a private, non-profit community psychotherapy counseling center.  A graduate of Fairfield University with degrees in psychology and family systems, she has worked as a family therapist for 23 years.  Ms. Timmermann has extensive experience in providing mental health and addiction services for adults, couples, and families, blending cognitive and solution-focused approaches to assist clients.  She is currently serving as president-elect of the Connecticut Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.

This program is presented through the Library’s Pathways to Parenting series.  The next program this winter will be “A Special Interactive Story Time: Hands Are Not for Hitting” on February 19. This program is for children ages 3-5 and their parent/s.  Please visit our website, www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org, for more details.
