Registration Starts June 2 for Children and Teen Summer Reading at the Fairfield Public Library

Summer is closer than you think.  And because we can’t wait, the Library is starting the 2014 Children and Teen summer reading challenges early this year so you will have more time to read more books.  Then, once school is out, the fun summer activities start.  Registration for both challenges begins June 2 at 9:00 am.

For the Children’s challenge, Read. Game. Win! register on the Library’s website www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org.  Then read anything you would like from June 2 to August 8, being sure to record every minute you read on your summer reading account.  Starting June 30, the Game and Win! part of summer reading begins at the Main and Fairfield Wood Branch Libraries with daily games and weekly raffle prizes.  There are also numerous story times, classes, special events and family events at both locations throughout the summer.  And, of course, there is the annual summer reading finale in August with a surprise entertainer to be announced.  Read. Game. Win! is for children entering grades K-5 in the fall.  New to the summer reading challenge this year is Read. Game. Win! Jr. for children ages 0-5.

For the Teen challenge, Spark a Reaction, go to http://fplteens.ning.com to set up an account.  On the last day of school, start reading and logging points for each book read while also earning points for additional activities including watching movies, sharing recipes, creative writing, volunteering and creating art.  On June 27, teen summer programs begin with opportunities to earn additional points by attending events.  The more points you earn, the more chances you have to win prizes.  Prizes (gift cards, autographed books, new tech gadgets, etc.) will be raffled off at the finale party at the Library on August 8. There will also be a weekly raffle for gift cards to local and online stores.  Spark a Reaction is for teens entering grades 6 and up in the fall.
