Talking About Books with Dr. Mark Schenker @ the Fairfield Public Library

The Fairfield Public Library is happy to announce that popular discussion leader, Dr. Mark Schenker, will be presenting a lecture series on The Odyssey this fall.  The series will be held on Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. in the Rotary Room at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road on September 19, October 3, October 17 and October 24.

Dr. Schenker will present a series of four lectures on Homer’s other epic masterpiece that will place the poem in the context of the ancient Greek world and the Western literary tradition.  His primary emphasis, however, will be on The Odyssey as a literary work of art, reanimated by our collective reading of it.  Participants will encounter Homer’s masterpiece of adventure and homecoming, whose hero is both a warrior and a husband.
Dr. Schenker is an Associate Dean at Yale College and Dean of Academic Affairs, and a part-time lecturer in the English Department.  He has led book discussions at the Fairfield Public Library for over a decade, and has given numerous lectures on writers and their works.

Advanced registration is required due to the limited space.  All programs at the Fairfield Public Library are free of charge.  For more information and to register for this event call 203-256-3160, or visit us on the web www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org .  Follow the Fairfield Public Library on Twitter: www.twitter.com/fairfieldpublib and Facebook: www.facebook.com/fairfieldlibrary
