A Nifty Lunchtime Solution

Too busy to pack your lunch for work each day?  Too busy at work to think about what eat for lunch?  Too hungry to think straight as lunchtime rolls in?  Too mad at yourself for not thinking about it sooner?  Too desperate for a simple resolution?

Lucky for you, I have discovered a nifty solution.  Home cooked, homestyle Indian food cooked and delivered to your work desk everyday!

Too good to be true?!!!  :-)

A friend of mine (folks call him “Raul”) tipped me off on this very unique service which is a secret known to few.  Rence Kitchen, is a small business in Fairfield County.  The owner and chef, Rence, has years of experience cooking in kitchens of 5 star hotels in India.  He has also worked in many Indian restaurants in New Jersey and Connecticut. His idea:  Delivering hot and ready to eat, home-cooked, homestyle, hearty Indian meals to the working crowds of Fairfield County - all at a very reasonable price.

The idea took off and was initially received really well by all the Indian consultants and contractors who are working in Fairfield County, away from their homes and families.  Craving the taste of home-cooked indian meals, they were thrilled to have Rence as their savior.  As it is to be expected, the word in offices started spreading and now Rence finds that his client base comprises of many ethnicities.  People who love the food, the convenience and most importantly the taste.

So here is how this service works.  Your first step is to sign up for Rence’s service.  There is no obligation to buy food every day or ever.   But chances are that once you start getting his daily menu’s via emails, you wont be able to resist.  The emails are titled “Rice ‘n Dal” (which refers to the very basic dishes consumed in Indian homes on a daily basis).  Dal is Hindi word for lentil or lentil soup (as you may know it).  Each day’s menu includes rice, dal and one chapati (Indian home made bread).  On top of that, Rence cooks a special vegetarian dish each day and on most days he also offers a non-veg option as well.  The email arrives early in the morning and you are place your order by 10AM that morning.  You can do that by simply replying to his morning email. The cost .... are you ready for this?....... $6 (including delivery)!!!

I have tried this service a few times and loved it.  It is delicious Indian food without the oily-fatty curries that you will find in restaurants.  The flavors are bold and the quantity is just right for one person’s lunch.

Rence is an extremely talented chef.  He works hard to make sure that the quality of his food and his service is impeccable.  In my recent conversation with him, I learned that he starts cooking at 4 AM every week day.  It is important to him that his client’s meals are delivered just as lunch time strikes.   At this time, his delivery service is offered on weekdays only in a radius around Stamford and its neighboring towns.  Rence does offer catering services as well as cooking classes.  He told me that he will be teaching Indian cooking classes at the Wilton High School this fall as part of the Wilton Continuing Ed program.  His cooking style is simple, and with his expertise he manages to create flavor profiles as if he has slaved on the curries for hours.  But in reality his techniques are a breeze.  I am sure that his cooking classes with simple yet delicious recipes will inspire many home-cooks amongst you.

Hope you give Rence Kitchen a try.  And when you do, be sure to note the ridiculously long grains of the Basmati rice you are served. I was blown away!  :-)
