After days of miserable, rainy and overcast weather, when I opened my eyes to sunlight this morning, my first thought was – “Gotta make the most of it!”. So I proceeded to plan the day’s itinerary centered around the great outdoors. Of course that meant lunching at some outdoor venue as well!
El Charrito Mexican Taco Tuck in Stamford came to mind. It had been months since I last visited them and I was craving their yummy goodness. Their tacos are homemade. They are really authentic and good. It is simple Mexican street food at its best. I always feel like they came fresh out of my friend’s kitchen … you know the one who is from Mexico? :-)
In my last few visits, I have tried quite a few things and here are my two cents: The tacos are always soft and delicately flavored so that they don’t overpower the taste of the fillings. These are not the kind of tacos you eat with sour cream or even guacamole. They are simple in composition yet quite deep in flavor. Camarones ie: the shrimp tacos are the moistest and the flavor of the delicately seasoned shrimp really comes through. The chorizo taco is the most flavorful. The chorizo tastes like no other and I simply LOVE it! Adobada, the spicy pork taco was nice and spicy. It is a good choice. And you simply can’t go wrong with Pollo, the chicken taco. Cueritos is the crunchy pork skin taco. Very flavorful meat…but the process of frying the pork skin to get it crunchy rendered it a bit on the dry side. The fresh onions and cilantro on top of each is the best compliment for these yummy tacos - adding the perfect crunch and fresh flavor.
