Killing FOUR Birds With One Stone!

... that’s what I felt I accomplished when I attended a fabulous afternoon party hosted by Henri’s Reserve (champagne purveyors) in the beautiful and artistic setting of Southport Galleries, Southport CT.

The lovely and charming owner of Henri’s Reserve, Ruth, invited me to attend a celebration of Global Champagne Day featuring boutique champagnes produced by small family estates - made the old-fashioned way!  She planned this celebration exquisitely with delicious artisanal champagne tastings, paired with four of its most perfect compliments: desserts, chocolates, cheese and bread!

I admitted to Ruth that I am something of a champagne-idiot.  Sure I know words like Blanc, Brut, Rose .... but I am totally clueless about the intricate nuances of each.  Ruth had eight different kinds of champagnes for us to try.  Too busy talking, as usual, I only got to try 3-4 of them .... and I can tell you that each was delicious and distinct. Henri’s Reserve offers a variety of experiences centered around champagne. From champagne clubs to champagne tastings to champagne gift options to champagne sets for pair each course of your dinner with friends.  Just ask for Ruth, she’ll take care of ya!

While I went there for the Champagne tasting, I was so thrilled to see three other local vendors that I have been meaning to check out for a long long time!

1. I have been following Michelle, of Sweet&Simple Bakery in Fairfield, for a long time on Twitter.  From what I had heard, using all local ingredients, her goodies are to die for.  Now I finally got to taste them for myself. Brownies. Cupcakes. Cookies. Yum!

2. La Rouge by Aarti is an emerging chocolate business out of Fairfield County.  Bringing flavors of the world through her handmade chocolates, made with local and organic ingredients, Aarti’s creations are a total surprise and delight!

3. Fairfield Cheese Company, voted Best of Connecticut by Connecticut magazine in 2011 and 2012, has been on my must-do list for the longest time.  I just HAVE to visit their shop sometime soon!

It is always a pleasure to see my friend, the super-talented Margaret, owner of Wave Hill Breads.  In the last few years - we have all watched this business grow by leaps and bounds.  There is good reason for that - quality and taste!  Its as simple as that, my friends.

With tons of my blogger/media/foodie pals filling the room- this was one party I was delighted to attend.

Cheers!
