Find out what's happening in Fairfieldwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

The Fairfield Giant’s Mitey Mites Juniors hosted the Stratford (2) Redskins last Sunday afternoon to celebrate the annual homecoming weekend.  As it turned out, the Giant’s literally handed the Redskins a win with three minutes left in the fourth quarter as they drove deep into Redskins territory charging towards the end zone and a potential tie game at 18 apiece.   Somehow the Redskins defense came up with a controversial stripped ball that they then ran all the way back for a game ending touchdown and 24-12 win.

Sean O’Neil and Tyler Bartlett each had rushing TDs for the Giants and Cooper Anderson punched up the middle for multiple carries and key yardage.  Defensively the Giants struggled to get their footing but extra efforts from Joe Macri, Jack Ransome, Nolan Childers and Trevor Scholz.

The 2-4-1 Giants head into their final week 8 against Amity with a 7-0 record on the “kids are learning and having fun” meter.

MITEY MITE SR  Giants 0 Danbury 32

The Fairfield Giants Mitey Mite Sr.’s suffered a loss to the Danbury Trojans 32-0. The Trojans stifling defense swarmed all over the field throughout the day. The Giants mustered up a total of 5 first downs the entire game on the offensive side of the ball. On defense, the Giants just could not find an answer for the Danbury overpowering offense. Fairfield played tough for 4 quarters, bringing all they had against the much more experienced Trojans team. !

JR PEE WEE   Giants 14  West Haven 6

The Giants Jr Pee Wee team (5-2) extended their win streak to 4 games, beating the West Haven Seahawks Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Field by the score of 14-6. The two teams slugged it out for 4 quarters with Fairfield coming out on top in a very exciting finish. Giants QB Nick Morris opened the scoring in Q2 capping off a 60 yard offensive drive with a 10 yd bootleg around the left side and in for the score. Defensively, the Giants would not give an inch to West Havens powerful running game thru Q1 + Q2. The half would end with the score remaining 6-0. Fairfield's offensive continued to grind out yardage. moving the chains with pounding runs and quick passes to start Q3. After having a TD called back on an illegal motion penalty, Fairfield would be stuffed on a 4th and goal play from the 5 yard line. The Seahawks felt a momentum shift coming. On the ensuing drive, WH would strike with a 75 yard TD pass to tie game 6-6 with just under 5 minutes remaining. It was time to dig deep and regroup as a team, and the Giants did just that. Zigging and zagging downfield with great runs from Tommy O'Connell, Luke Martucci, AJ Montgomery, DYlan Fragameni, Mike Innaimo, and Brendan Dunleavy, coupled with 4 pass com-pletions  from Morris to WR Jimmy Mockler, the Giants drove 65 yards to the Seahawk 3 yard line. With the offensive line giving one last monstrous push led by Owen Miller, Peter Strang, Robert DeLia, Alex Joliet, and Hank Hackett, Morris would QB sneak into the end zone for a the TD with under 2 minutes to go in the game. The stadium erupted in cheers as he crossed the goal line. WH would make one last effort to score driving down the Giants 40 yard line where Grady Bartlett would bring down a sprinting WH receiver as the game clocked ticked to zero!. With the win, the JPW team secured a playoff spot as they head to Amity next week for their final regular season game.

PEE WEE   Giants 34  Amity 6

The Pee Wee team upped their record to 6-1 and earned a spot in the SCPW playoffs with their win Sunday.  They put 27 points on the board in the first half, enroute to a 34-6 victory over Amity.  Once again, many players contributed to the offensive attack. On the second play from scrimmage, Finn Duran took the handoff and went untouched into the endzone from 56 yards out.  Amity mounted a threat, eating up most of the remaining minutes of the first quarter, but the Giant’s defense turned them away empty handed.  They did eventually score in the second quarter on a nice pass play, for their only score of the game.  Aidan Wykoff scored the first of his two touchdowns, breaking several tackles, for a 45 yard score.  Brian Kiremidjian’s PAT kick was good making the score 14-0.  On the ensuing kick-off, Duran recovered the ball, setting up Sam Roberto’s 15 yard touchdown, his first of two on the day.  The offense kept rolling as Wykoff scored again, weaving his way into the endzone.  Peter Schwartz scored the PAT on a blast up the middle ending the half with the score 27-6.

The Giants were able to take advantage of an Amity miscue with Duran intercepting a pass early in the third quarter.  Sam Roberto made them pay and followed with a strong run for his second score of the day.  Sam Palmer powered his way in for the PAT, closing out the scoring.  After starting a little flat, the Giant’s defense regrouped and allowed minimal yardage.  They also assisted the scoring attack with great blocking.  Jackson Gilmore was singled out by the Giant’s coaching staff for his efforts.  Fairfield will travel to Seymour on Sunday for the final regular season game.

JR MIDGETS  Giants 8  Amity 28

The Fairfield Jr. Midgets were unable to contain Amity's aerial assault, dropping this past weekend's contest 28-8.
While the Junior Midgets squad put shut down its opponent on the ground thanks to the upfront rush of Patrick Falvey,  Andrew Marcello, Gage Dias and Kyle Tursi, visiting Amity was able to pass for two long scores of 50+ yards in the first half of play. Down 14-0 at the half, the Giants, undeterred, dug in and continued to battle throughout the second half finally reaching pay-dirt in the fourth quarter when Sam Keresey hit Ian Bartlett for a 20 yard scoring strike down the left sideline.  Despite a great effort the Giants fell short of victory.  The Jr. Midgets are idle this weekend and looking for to a potential berth in the Bob Boss Bowl to close out their season.
