FAIRFIELD, CONN. – Prepare to be I-M-P-R-E-S-S-E-D at the 31st annual townwide Spelling Bee on Wednesday, April 11 at 7pm in the Roger Ludlowe Middle School auditorium. Continuing a three-decade tradition, the Junior Women’s Club of Fairfield will once again host this inspiring event for fifth-graders. The evening, sponsored for the second year by Fairfield University Graduate School of Education & Allied Professions, promises to keep audience members on the edge of their seats as these bright students vie to outspell their opponents.
The nearly 50 participants include classroom winners from fifth-grade classes in Fairfield’s public and private schools, plus a corresponding number of alternates. The first-, second- and third-place winners of the town bee will receive award medals, as well as monetary awards donated by local banks (including The Bank of Fairfield and CHASE Bank) and will advance to the State Spelling Bee hosted by Connecticut Junior Women, Inc. to be held May 26 in Wallingford, Conn. All participants will also receive JWC award certificates and a goody bag.
In addition to the spelling bee, the JWC of Fairfield hosts a “Touch-a-Truck” event to fund scholarships for high school women, as well as “A Visit to Santa’s House,” the proceeds of which benefit our charitable partner, along with other community service projects and social events throughout the year.
