Fairfield Memorial Day Parade 2013: What You Should Know

The sun will return -- and with it, warm temperatures -- in time for Fairfield's Memorial Parade Monday morning.

The parade, which annually draws thousands spectators from both in and out of town, kicks off at 10 a.m. at South Pine Creek and Post roads.

From there, participants and floats turn right on Old Post Road (at the intersection where the Fairfield Public Library stands), left on Old Post Road, and past the reviewing stand at the Town Hall Green before disassembling at the South Benson Road.

Parade Chairman Jim Bender said, as with every year, he hopes the parade feels "bigger and better" than the last year.

Planning has been "going great. Everything is on for Monday," Bender added.

This year's theme is "Red, White & Blue We Honor You - the Armed Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, Thanks for Taking a Stand."

Local businesses are gearing for the parade. Colony Grill is open until 3 p.m. Monday and will serve breakfast pies all day. Old Post Tavern will be dishing out breakfast sandwiches with water or coffee to go.

St. Paul's Church on Old Post Road will host a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Fairfield Rotary Club is collecting nonperishable and canned food for homeless veterans.

After the parade, head to the Fairfield Museum and History Center for its 6th annual Memorial Day picnic from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
