Waistline Approved Foods

This is the time of year where I really make a conscious effort to pull the plug on store-bought produce.

All veggies, fruits and even eggs will be purchased at my local farms. What better time is there to eat fresh and light than summer?

This season has a built-in slim eating plan.

If you are like me, by this time of year I am sick and tired of the usual fare, like apples, bananas, broccoli, etc. And while I can still enjoy these foods, my taste buds are screaming for something new. And, my body wants to feel cooler and lighter in this warm weather.

A trek to a local farm or farmers market is the perfect solution to the clean eating blues; especially for those who are used to having the same things day in and day out. Variety is the key to vibrant health, and the gateway out of monotonous (diet-like) eating.

Seeing produce so close to nature ignites our passion for food again! It opens up a whole new world of possibilities in the pan. Who knew there were so many different kinds of eggplant, or beans or grapes? Heaven!

Also, fruits and veggies taste very different when they are picked at peak ripeness, not forced to ripen in a truck. And we can appreciate the beauty of our food when we see the vibrant colors under sunshine instead of poor fluorescent lighting.

So head on out and find something new to please your palate. As an added bonus, everything under the sun is waistline approved!

And don’t forget to thank the farmers who tend our soil more for the love of earth than for profits that can be gained. As the war rages on amongst the agricultural giants like Monsanto, I will quietly take my dollars elsewhere.

Won’t you join me?

Tell me about your newest find at the farm/farmer’s market. I can’t wait to hear about it.
