Health & Fitness

The Key

With the holidays (quickly) approaching, I got to thinking about life, and not just as a whole, but on the daily. Whether we like it or not, eventually our lives become somewhat of a routine. We wake up, go to work, go to the gym, make dinner, and go to bed just to do the same thing tomorrow, with a smile on our faces. Sound familiar?

I feel routines are a good thing. They help us stay focused, motivated, and on task. It’s what we do in-between the “necessary” part of the routine that matters. What are you doing in your daily life that helps turn the “necessary” into happiness and not a monotonous existence? How are you contributing to your own success be it at work, at home, or at the gym?

A recent Harris Poll concluded that only 33% of Americans are happy with their lives. That means 67% of us live every single day unhappy in one form or another!  The thought of this is devastating. As we go through the motions of our daily life, it’s easy to forget how lucky we truly are. It is so easy to take the things and the one’s you hold closest to your heart for granted.

Shoes, cars, and houses have become status symbols that people view as “happiness”, but how many miles are you going to walk or drive in the designer of choice without your health? Now there’s something to think about…Shouldn’t good health be a factor if not THE factor that determines our happiness?

We recently dedicated a morning at the office to discuss our values and goals. It was an exercise to see if our thoughts align with our values. In basic, do we practice what we preach? And question after question the same answer keep presenting itself… Health. The health of ourselves, our families, our animals, and the people we care for every day. Good health is a gift, and not all of us receive it or get to keep it.  But what we can do is try our very best to sustain it, whatever part of it we have left.

Chiropractic, our diets, and exercise are a few of the best ways to do that. Can you imagine that some people go through their entire life without ever having their spine checked? The bones that house and protect the control center of our existence.  Nutrition- our habits can be the safest form of medicine or the slowest form of poison, and yet most American’s follow the S.A.D. (Standard American Diet) day in and day out.  And last but not least, exercise. Exercise increases our heart rate, stimulates brain plasticity, and releases hormones that make us HAPPY! All through natural processes our body is designed to perform.

So as we move into what can easily become the most stressful 6 weeks of the year, remember to count your blessings, cherish those closest to you, and most importantly, cherish your health!

Light and love,

Dr. Bre
