Storm Follow Up

Thank you to residents, volunteers, emergency responders.

I am very thankful that all of our residents are safe and sound after the recent terrible storm that hit our town. Tropical Storm Irene showed me how dedicated Fairfield’s public safety officials truly are.

I had the opportunity to join in the planning, preparation and execution of the protection effort for our town. I wanted to take the time to share with all our citizens what I observed. I was very impressed with the teamwork and professionalism of our entire emergency services effort – from the Command Center team to the volunteers in the Ludlowe emergency shelter which took in people and pets. Everyone involved made our town proud with their efforts and focus on protecting Fairfield.

This was a total team effort. It involved Police, Fire, the Emergency Communications Center, DPW, Health, CERT volunteers, MRC volunteers, our Dog Warden, our Building Dept, Southport Volunteer Fire Department, Stratfield Volunteer Fire Dept along with UI liaisons and AMR Ambulance liaisons. These are all people that left their families alone in the potential hurricane to come out to protect and assist our families.

I wish everyone could have had the view that I did. Now that the storm has passed, the waters receded and the power restored, let’s not forget all those that helped us get through it all. Please take a moment to say thank you to our emergency services team of professionals and volunteers the next time you have a chance.
