Carvallo- Adam Francis Carvallo, age seven, of Fairfield, deeply loved son, brother, nephew, cousin, friend, and Thomas the Tank Engine enthusiast, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on October 15, 2012.
He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Melanie and Chelo; brother, Lucas; grandfathers, Jose-Adan and Frank; grandmother, Maria-Esther; aunts, Andrea, Kimberly, Alexandra, Sylvia and Lily; uncles, Steve, Mike, Richard and Chelin; great-uncles, Kyle and Mike; great-aunt, Lizann; and cousins, Annika, Skylar, Fletcher, Griffin, Morgan, Paula, Juan, Martin, Rodrigo, Leandro and Lucia. He is preceded in death by his cherished Gran, Evon Alexander Fox.
One of Adam's greatest gifts was to enjoy each moment and persistently pursue the things he loved. He delighted in picnics to Penfield Beach, visiting the little park on Jackman Avenue, baking copious quantities of apple cake, marveling at the Norwalk and Mystic aquariums and, of course, playing with his vast Thomas collection. Even his trips for treatment to Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital were welcomed as an adventure to see "his" doctors in "his" city.
Adam also possessed a profound ability to connect with others and, over his seven years, drew an ever-widening circle of family, friends, caregivers and community members close around him. He lived in the Stratfield Village area of Fairfield and attended the Early Childhood Center and Stratfield Elementary School, where he made lifelong connections with teachers, classmates and their families. His parents would particularly like to thank those friends from the Early Childhood Center who reached out in 2010 during the recurrence of Adam's cancer, and from Stratfield Elementary School who have been so supportive of both Adam and his brother in 2011 and 2012. The Carvallo family is also deeply grateful for the expert and compassionate medical care he received for almost five years at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, where he grew very fond of his neurosurgeon, Dr. Richard Anderson, oncologist, Dr. James Garvin, nurse practitioner, Eileen Stark and, of course, the many nurses who were his "girlfriends" regardless of gender.
In the last two and a half months of Adam's life, he was at home too ill to attend school, but his schoolmates kept him happy with a steady stream of visitors, often bearing gifts which he relished opening. He continued to make new friends even into the fall of 2012, when Vitas Hospice staff Cathie, Chelsea and Vincent unflaggingly brightened his days with visits, care and special events. Among the latter was a visit in a vintage fire truck from North Haven Fire Chief Tim Mayer, accompanied by local firefighters from Station #3 on Jackman Avenue. A week later Lt. Mark Harry, of Station #3, brought not only the pump truck from his station, but also the ladder truck from Station #2, from Jennings Road. The image of a small boy assertively directing six firefighters, two trucks, one hose and a fully extended ladder in his pajamas will not soon be forgotten.
Adam's zest for life was irresistible. He will be forever missed by the countless family and friends he made laugh and taught to savor the moment.
The family will welcome loved ones and friends at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center, on Sunday from 3 to 7PM. His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on October 30, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church, in Fairfield.
