God called Joan Mary (Good) Gomola “Grammy” home to heaven on May 31, 2013 and she finally answered.

The daughter of the late Leo and Mary (Syvak) Good, Joan leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, faith and compassion.

Her unwavering faith, strength, and courage are a source of comfort and inspiration to her children, George and Kathie Gomola, Elizabeth Isley, Joanne Ward, Michael Gomola, Christopher Gomola, Suzanne Gomola, Kathleen Gomola and her grandchildren, Caitlin, Courtney, Colleen, Kelsey and John Gomola, Chris, Jenny, Elizabeth, and Kevin Isley, Stephen and Shawn Ward, Brian and Brenden Gomola, her brother Daniel Good, of Greenwich and his sons Daniel and Albert Good of NY, Christine and Brian McNally, and her large extended family of loving friends. Joan was predeceased by her sister, Ann McNally.

Born and raised in BronxNY, Ms. Gomola, graduated from Mount Vernon Nursing School in 1956. After graduation, she married George Gomola and moved to WashingtonD.C. where she worked at WalterReed Army Hospital until moving to Bridgeport in 1960, and to Fairfield in 1963.

After taking time off to raise her children, Ms. Gomola returned to the healthcare field, working at Dinan Memorial Nursing Home, Catholic Charities, and various other healthcare facilities, ending her career as a Hospice nurse in the mid-90’s.

Ms. Gomola was an active participant in the faith community. She was one of the first volunteers to work in the Charismatic Healing Movement in the Catholic Church, volunteering her time to lead retreats at My Father’s House, and helping to form one of the first healing prayer teams at our Lady of the Assumption Church in Fairfield, where she also served as a Eucharistic Minister until her cancer diagnosis in 2006. She continued her ministry throughout her illness providing prayer and comfort to those in need wherever she went.

An extraordinary woman, loving and gracious, she deeply touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with her messages of love, faith, hope and healing and we are eternally grateful she was a part of our lives.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-8 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center.
