Obituary: John Zadrovitz Jr., 93, WWII Veteran

Zadrovitz – John Zadrovitz, Jr., age 93, devoted husband to the late Violet Farina Zadrovitz, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Fairfield, passed away peacefully in his home on March 19, 2013.  

John will be lovingly remembered by his children, Luann Holmes, and her husband Jeff, of Cape Coral, FL, Diane Krout , and her husband Vince, of Audubon, PA, and John Zadrovitz III, and his wife Sheri, of Ft. Myers; his cherished grandchildren, Sean Zadrovitz, Kristine Zadrovitz, Andrea Krout, Danielle Krout, and John Krout; one brother, James Zadrovicz; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife, John was predeceased by his brothers, Francis, Stephen, Anthony, and Louis Zadrovicz.

Born in Bridgeport, John was the son of the late John and Anna Tarvich Zadrovicz. He lived most of his life in Fairfield, more recently moving to Florida to be closer to family.  

John served in the United States Army during World War II. As part of the 95th Infantry, Company Engineers C320 Group, he saw combat in Germany and France. He received the Silver Star for his heroic actions when destroying a German pillbox and taking seven prisoners while under fire. He was also recognized for his contributions to the Battle of the Bulge and crossing the Rhine River into Germany.

When he returned home, John used the G.I. Bill to attend Bullard Haven Trade  School for carpentry. He worked for Mutual Construction and later, for Moore Specialty Tools until his retirement.  

John was alLifetime member of the American Legion Post 143, a devout Catholic and dedicated  member of Holy Family Church. He also enjoyed bowling, golf, and dancing with his family and friends. His warmth and sincerity each time he would greet a person will remain a fond memory for all who knew him.  

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home, and 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church.
