Obituary: Zachary D. Hauser

Zachary David Hauser, age 25, of Fairfield, Connecticut passed away suddenly on May 6, 2013 in Vallejo, California. He was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on December 2, 1987. Zach was a well-rounded, talented young man who excelled both scholastically and athletically. An avid sportsman, Zach was a valuable member on many Pop Warner and Little League teams. He was a member of the Junior Babe Ruth League Baseball Team that represented Connecticut in the Babe Ruth World Series. He enjoyed playing football and baseball, as well as skiing, playing golf and mountain biking. He was a Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees fan and was extremely well versed in all aspects of sports statistics, history and trivia. Zach graduated Magna Cum Laude from Fairfield Prep where he played both baseball and varsity football. He was recognized for his achievements, both on and off the field. Zach was awarded the Outstanding Scholar-Athlete scholarship from the New Haven County Chapter of the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame. He used this scholarship at the University of New Hampshire where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology. While attending college he received the distinction of Presidential Scholar and was also a member of the Honors Program. Zach was currently attending Touro University in Vallejo, CA, studying Osteopathic Medicine where he was posthumously awarded his second year lab coat and medical pin on Friday, May 10. While attending medical school he continued to excel both academically and athletically where he captained the school basketball team and was involved in many other clubs and activities. Zach loved his family very much and brought them tremendous joy and happiness. He was surrounded by friends, both at home, and at every school he attended. Zach would light up any room he walked into with his infectious smile and positive energy. He truly warmed the hearts of all who knew him. Zach is survived by his mother, Gretchen Shane Hauser of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; his father, Robert John Hauser and wife, Giselle of Fairfield; his sister, Molly Shane Hauser of Fairfield; and his brothers, Matthew Zachary Hauser and wife, Vanessa and their son, William of Houston, Texas; and Rory Jacob Hauser and wife, Lynn of Fairfield. He will also be missed by many other friends and relatives. Zach’s family would like for you to join them at his visitation from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 17 at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield Center. Services celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. DIRECTLY on Saturday, May 18 at First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Rd. in Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
