Ronald A. Clayton, 64, Longtime Resident

The New Jersey native lived in Fairfield for 36 years, according to his obituary.

Ronald A. Clayton, resident of Fairfield for 36 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 14, according to an obituary posted on the website. He was 64.

A native of Freehold, NJ, Mr. Clayton practiced intellectual property law for 39 years. He joined Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto in 1981 and became partner in 1983. He was Chair of the firm's Copyrights Practice Group and practiced in all phases of Appellate, District Court and inter partes Patent and Trademark Office litigation, as well as trademark acquisition.

Mr. Clayton was a member of the Board of Directors and past Chair of the Copyright Committee of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association. He was also a past Chair of the Patent, Trademark and Copyright Section of the Connecticut Bar Association. Mr. Clayton graduated with a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1972.

In 1969, he earned a B.S. in physics from the Stevens Institute of Technology, where he played catcher for the baseball team and sang with the glee club. He was valedictorian of the Freehold Regional High School class of 1965. He was also a political enthusiast, Giants fan and member of the Patterson Club.

Born June 12, 1947 to the late Luella and Curtis, Ron is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Beth; daughters Meredith, Lindsay and Elizabeth; brother Curtis and his wife Marcella; parents-in-law Jack and Betty Geiger; 13 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews: a large family that he loved dearly. A wake will be held Sunday, July 17, between 3 and 7 p.m. at Spear Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
