Bank Robbers Still at Large

Police This Morning Were Looking for Pickup Truck

The man who robbed People's Bank on Stratfield Road Wednesday afternoon remained at large this morning, as did the getaway driver who nearly struck several pedestrians as he sped away from the bank after the 2 p.m. heist.

Police this morning were looking for an older, 1980s-style, red pick-up truck that sped from the bank after one of the men stole about $2,000. Police on Wednesday said a dye pack had been put in the bag of money and that the smoke witnesses reported seeing from the pickup truck as it sped away may have been due to the dye pack exploding.

"Witnesses reported that the truck had a loud muffler and had smoke spewing from the cab, possibly from an exploding dye pack included with the stolen cash," a press release issued by the Police Department this morning said.

The robber, wearing a dark ski mask, had handed the teller a note but did not display a weapon. His accomplice, the pickup truck's driver, was waiting in the parking lot of the nearby Dogwood Green condominiums and nearly struck several pedestrians as he drove out of the parking lot, jumping the curb and heading south on Stratfield Road.

Police are asking anyone with information on the robbery to call the Detective Division at 203-254-4840. All calls will be kept confidential.
