Be on the Lookout for Bike Thieves in Fairfield

There have been 36 bicycles stolen in Fairfield so far this year, totaling $23,000 worth of stolen property, according to police.

Earlier this month, Fairfield police warned residents of a string of bike burglaries in town in which five bikes were stolen within the first couple of weeks of July.

The thefts haven't slowed down and Fairfield has already seen seven more bikes stolen in 2014 than all of last year.

Lieutenant James Perez of the Fairfield Police Department told WTNH News 8 that there have been 36 bicycles stolen this year, amounting to more than $23,000 worth of stolen property.

To illustrate the problem, Fairfield police has released to News 8 surveillance footage that was shot at the Fairfield Train Station earlier this month.

According to wtnh.com:

On it one can see a man with nothing more than a pair of clippers stealing a bike from someone who thought they were keeping their peddle powered machine safe by chaining it to a rack. But this incident say authorities is far from isolated.
