Couple's spat leads to arrest; $83K in silver reported stolen; Home Depot shoplift

Breach of peace arrest

A Fairfield man was arrested Wednesday night on disorderly conduct and third-degree assault charges after a fight with his girlfriend turned physical.

According to police, at around 10 p.m., Jason Whiteley, 40, and his girlfriend, both residents of 350 Castle Avenue, began arguing about a Facebook page. Whiteley struck his girlfriend in the head and pushed her to the floor in their living room, police said. She struck her head and the pair struggled for a few minutes. Police were called and Whiteley was arrested and transported to police headquarters. She left the house. Whiteley was released on a promise to appear July 21.

Home Depot shoplifter

A 17-year-old male was arrested late Wednesday afternoon at Home Depot, 541 Kings Highway Cutoff, after trying to leave the store without paying for $950 worth of merchandise.

According to police, at around 5 p.m., store security saw the young man walk past all the registers pushing a shopping cart containing four boxes of tiles and two 24-packs of spray paint. Security saw him with an accomplice when he first entered the store and later found an abandoned cart, containing similar items, in the outdoor garden department.

The young man was transported to headquarters. No court date information was available.

Warrant arrest on m/v charges dating back to May

A Bridgeport man was arrested on multiple charges Wednesday afternoon on a warrant related to a motor vehicle accident in May.

According to police, Eladio Cuamatitla Vargas, 24, of Bridgeport, was operating a car May 30, 2011 near 1261 Congress Street when he went off the road crashing into a tree and sign. He was injured and transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital where a blood test was requested by police. Results of the test showed that he was intoxicated at the time of the accident and the warrant for his arrest was issued.

Vargas was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, left lane restriction and operating with a suspended license. A court date of August 1 and $100 bond was set.
